[sdiy] Filter CV Inputs

I've got a jack running to a point in my SH-101 that allows you to pipe in 
CV to control the filter's frequency.  How can I add a depth control to this 
so it isn't running full blast?  I've rigged up a passive attenuator but the 
problem I'm having is the pot still controls the frequency even if nothing 
is plugged into the jack.  Do I need to construct a single channel cv 
'mixer' using active electronics?
