National has a driver chip with onboard "color organ" circuit, the LP3950,
intended for cellphone applications...  other related chips too.

  Actually, I've built some devices using arrays of RGB LEDs for audio 
purposes, but I'm under NDA at the moment so I can't really talk about 
them beyond that the devices exist. ^^;
