I tend to not use rare parts for DIY. That leaves me with the shortest
available being the reissued 512stage unit, and as much fun as BBDs are, I
wouldnt run a Matsushita BBD within 25% of its max rated clock unless I was
after a distortion effect...
For some of the audio illusion stuff I'm playing with I'm using some ancient
( but amusingly enough, still available) signal delay lines from Raytheon
sonar sets. 500microsecond delay and extremely clean, just 1v peak to peak...
( okay, its more like 400 and some change but its close enough ).
