Insertion loss - ( see SNR )

What I've found as a difference between the flavors of BBDs ( and misused
CCDs ) is usually "just" clock speed. The Reticon chips could handle much
faster clock rates then comparable Panasonics.  This makes a HUGE difference
when you want extremely short delay times.

What is really more important IMHO is proper alias filtering and proper
companding.  With enough signal conditioning to work around the limitations
of BBDs, you can make a delay that even Harry would use.  Of course, I
*like* the sound of BBD distortion so I'm in the "whats the least I can do"
camp so I can make weird noises...
