For experimental work, I find the cheap flat-leaf contact sockets stand 
up to repeated chip-removal and insertion far better than the 
single-piece machined-pin sockets, which lose their grip after a few 
cycles. Machined-pin sockets would appear to be better for commercial 
product use as long as you never have to remove the chip more than once 
or twice. There are higher-quality leaf-contact sockets available which 
are probably the best choice for both purposes.
