True. The code should have been written by the individual claiming it. And
I think this counts. Virtual _synths_ are synths. If you wrote the code,
you did it yourself. Same with DSP and microcontrollers used in synths.

I have to agree. Nothing about SDIY suggests that the output of the project
should necessarily be free. When "free" was mentioned several times, I
smiled and silently disagreed until now. If I created my own stereo BBD
noise eliminator, did it all myself, it qualifies as SDIY. I can sell the
schematics and docs, or I can burn them (I know Harry's vote), but that
doesn't change the SDIY nature of the project.

Mass production may not really un-SDIY the thing either. Regarding MOTM and
Oakley, these _should_ count. SDIY means Synth Do It Yourself. Do the
makers of these products invent the designs and produce the products? And
don't start on sending PCBs out, several people do this who do SDIY. I just
don't see how professional vs. amatuer makes a difference. Perhaps the
definition of the award needs to be changed, "ASDIY" for amateur only...
I think there are only 2 qualifiers:
1) is it a synth or part of a synth?
2) did you do it yourself?
