OK, in the absence of a better idea, I'm probably going to use bolts wiht a
short thread on the end,
running them into a PCB, with a nut on each side, and either have the
circuitry on the underside of
the board or run a cable from the board to the 'doings'.
For an EXPENSIVE BUT NICE system, i had a dream last night that you could
have reed relays
under the board, and use magnetic chess pieces or similar, if you had a
suitably thin steel plate,
the pieces would stick to it but there would be still enough magnetism to
switch the relays.
