What I've been doing for decades...	:-)

Oh?  I haven't tried any CD players,  but would imagine that there would be 
some useful hardware bits in there as there is with tape decks.  Why not boom 
boxes or clock radios?  And what the heck is "Brother equipment"?

It's also easier if you take the stuff apart before you need something,  and 
at least partially disassemble things,  if not scrap it totally.  Takes a 
whole heck of a lot less room and you get a better idea of what you have.
