i think he drills multiple holes in wood and drives brass pins thru? he also had an earlier "rollable synth" project, where individual modules were sewn to a backing like a quilt and patched together w/ alligator clips...
i continue to make little noisebox modules, which can be patched together to make noisierbox conglomerations... but i use 1/8" connectors 'cause i already have patchcords & then i can connect to my more traditional modular rig too... is good to put the "play" back into musix...
