I'm in the process of finishing my first DIY module, and as Julian i started to
make frontpanel graphics with different software - very frustrating. Just before
christmas istumbeled over a german program called Front designer (not to be
confused with the schaeffer / front panel expres program of almost the same
name, this is a different product). This is a highly recomendable and cheap
little program that can help with the design of frontpanels.
It has a very smart scale designer that can make almost every kind scale you can
imagine for rotary or slide pots and meters. Lots of options for text,
graphics, millings, engravings, drillings, panel cut outs, printing and what
know i. It even does HPGL export. It also has lots of different symbols and
pictograms build in.
I paid 40 euros (around 54 US $) for the program including VAT and shipping from
Germany to Denmark.
They also sell schematics and PCB layout software (looks kind of simple) and a
program called lochmaster (loch = german for hole) for making veroboard layout.
