Hi Paul, just some ideas.
- Hand-craft (hobby) shops often have small plastic and wooden balls or
beads that you may be able to whip in shape.
- Also screw-on ball knobs are common on handles 'n stuff, machine shops
often stock them.
- And if you have access to a turning bench (for metal), Farnell has various
round shaped stock that can be machined that way.
- Epoxy putty / epoxy stick, bit messy though.
