Based upon many years of experience with medical and industrial equipment, I
have found small linear encapsulated supplies to last about half as long as
unencapsulated types. This has been mostly attributed to heat buildup due to
the insulating properties of the encapsulant, especially when coupled with poor
external ventilation. These type of supplies are handy to place in small
enclosed places, to their detriment. I have actually seen one manufacturer
offer an "unencapsulated" version of their power supply to improve reliability.
If I was to use one I would keep it well ventilated and run well below it's
output capacity, then you should be fine.
Take care,
Doug
