[sdiy] New Years Resolutions

You know, one bad thing about email is that it's very difficult to tell when
someone is kidding. In face to face conversation, subtle inflection cues or
body language lets you know that a person is kidding or being a little
sarcastic. I really have to believe that all our rants about "spouse gating"
were really in jest. Please remember that we nerds, geeks, etc, tend to feel
a little bewildered when the people around us don't exactly share our
enthusiasm for our weird little hobbies. We make humor about trying to find
others who share (or at least tolerate) our zest for electronics and all
things nerdly. Yes, we "complain," but we also know that we're a little
eccentric. (I know that my wife thinks I'm a little nuts about all this
synthesizer stuff, but I also love her for the fact that she gives me
'space' to pursue a hobby that gives me so much pleasure) A sense of humor
is a nerd's best friend, so try to remember that a lot of our "complaints"
are in jest. Would any of us give up the friendships and relationships we
have with "non-techies"? Of course not. We all know that different
viewpoints and passions are what makes the world go 'round.
But when we do find others that share our hobbies, we rejoice, share,
comfort, and goof around a LOT. Please don't take what we say here TOO
seriously. We are basically just having some fun with friends. We're drawn
together from around the world, and most of us will never meet face to face,
but we are friends nontheless.
As far as crushing the round speaker, this is just something that Scott
worked very hard on. A lot of personal effort goes into a project like that,
so naturally he was upset when it was crunched. Will he get over it? Of
course. I think he just needed to vent a little, but that will soon be just
a memory.
Sincerely,
Tim (Servo) Parkhurst

Ha! I just ran across this folder on my husband's computer! Working at
home, my left foot! Product evaluation expert for Digikey and Mouser? -
Bull! I found the bills stashed under that impossibly noisy, ugly
switchboard prototype he claims he's freelancing for Ma Bell.
I'll show him "spouse gating". I'll gate him up one wall and down the
other. The orb I crush ain't gonna be no fancy speaker, if you get my
drift. You're all very, very bad men (and women). Very bad!

PS Happy New Year to y'all, too. ;-D
