Hi Tom,
I've seen large cherry switch matrices on ebay for cheap.  They're 
like the switches in the ARP 2500, but I think that they were made for 
broadcasting purposes.  The ones I've seen have been big (50*50 I 
think) and sold for <$50, IIRC.
