I was looking at several neat examples of interesting cases for synths.
Then I considered some of the ones that I have:
Anderson-Jacobson Acoustic Modem cabinet 1979 vintage - for a dual joystick
filter/LFO unit (lacks the joysticks for the moment :-( ) This one looks
pretty cool. I think if I can find more modem cases like this I might just
sell them on eBay (with synth guts in them of course).
Victoreen Geiger counter cabinet - this is an awesome thing to put just
about anything in. The easy-open case is perfect for easy access to a
solderless breadboard patchpanel. The big analogue guage is a bonus. I plan
to use the meter to measure audio beat frequency between two 100KHz VCO's.
But I may do something else.
I thought I was being original and then I checked online and found that this
is a popular thing to do. And I haven't found a single one that doesn't look
cool.
Cigar boxes. Some of these are made from some pretty nice wood. Another
'easy-open' box.
Little wooden microscope boxes.
Bearcat III Electra Scanner - I go on and on about how great these are for
8-step sequencers. Nice and vintage looking and the LED's and switches are
already there. Front panel controls are very easilly modified. I don't know
if these are collectible or not. I guess mine isn't anymore. Oh well. {=^B
LLoyds portable 8-track player. Just like the one in the Joss Stone video to
'Fell in Love with a Boy'. I don't know exactly what I'm going to put into
this one, but it looks kind of neat. Probably a portable amp made from an
LM380.
Cheap Chinese jewelry boxes. (The ones the stores get the jewelry in.) These
are great for small prototypes. Dirt-cheap (usually free) and somewhat
strong but easy to cut-up cardboard. I mention these because I have about 50
of them and they are very useful.
That's all I can think of off the top of my head without digging around in
my room (which is huge).
So I'm curious what other people have come up with.
