If you look closely into the schematics then you will realize why they
used the 4151, its namely almost perfectly linear, however its also
not perfect, the saw wave slant on retrace. Actually you can as well say
that the CS80 IG chip are recreateing "previous" designs as well since the
linear func generator design of the IG is by no means inovative or new
for that sense.
And the major reason might be that the 4151 was/is dead cheap! :-)
