Gimme some time and some Kynar (and spare parts) and all of your SMD parts 
will have long floppy (floppiness can be specified...). leads. =^B

Seriously. This may be bad form but it's what I do (and I do it with a 
halfwave rectified 30W bluntish tip soldering iron). It's very relaxing to 
solder 100's of bits of blue wire to tiny leads. The lead spacing on DSP 
type things is a bitch but I have done it. The way the leads are bent though 
does require the part to be potted - so it's really kind of a hardcore 
commitment. It's MUCH easier for 8-pin SMD's which are by far the bulk of 
the parts I do liek this.
