I do believe stereo equipment can be improved by judicious addition of some
nice caps here and there, but they're still affordable. Like I have some
10000pF (and sundry values in between) silver mica caps that are good in
this regard. Of all the things I've saved over the years, my silver micas
are the most valuable I think. I'm sure I have a few teflon or polystyrene
caps that have gone unidentified though. Anyone know if "Precision
Capacitor" made those kinds? It's hard to Google them. Some caps just have
an aura of better quality, like Illinois and Rubycons (but all of mine are
old junk that I should throw away). Actually my Rubycon oil caps (which
aren't electrolytic) are probably better than my silver micas.
I was looking at Inifinicaps web site - that's what got me going about caps.
And you just can't go on about resistors in the same way. But I just look at
expensive stuff like that and say hmmm I'll bet that HV oil cap from the
microwave would work just as well.
