[sdiy] CA3086 versus CA3046

Hello all,

I have a question regarding two similar transistor array chips, both of which I have seen in schematics for various analog synth modules. I recently bought a bunch of the CA3086 arrays, specically with the idea of making a copy of the ARP 4034 VCF, but also thinking I could use them wherever I needed matched pairs. Since that time, in searching the web for analog module info, I have seen a another similar array, the CA3046, used in various analog module circuits.

After checking the data sheets (from intersil.com), it appears that only the 3046 has specific mention of device matching parameters. I would assume that the two commonly connected transistors on the 3086 are also matched, but for some reason its data sheet is silent about this. Does anyone have any alternative data sheets or experience with the 3086 to show that its commonly connected pair is indeed a matched pair, and if so, is the matching as good as (or better than) the 3046? Also, it seems as though these chips are either obsolete or very soon to be. Are there any recommended modern equivalents?

thanks,

Dave
