I looked at the pinnings today. In the synthesizer circuit, the AT90S8535
can be replaced by an ATmega16 or an ATmega8535. I'm quite sure it
doesn't matter at all which of the two will be used. There is also an
ATmega163 which can be probably used as well.
I don't use any special functions of the I/O pins (except of PD0 == RXD);
so only the "first names" of the pins (eg. PD4) really count.
