OK then. If I eventually get one of these puppies up and running I will
have to hire my 15 year old daughter to do the programming for me.:)

Seriously though, this whole AVR thing looks like something that would
be incredibly fun to tweak in code, even if you are like me and know
nothing about the origins of this formula. Change a digit here or there
and get a new response. Digital alchemy.

With y[i]=x[i]-x[i-1]+m*y[i-1] you would have the simplest digital
high-pass filter, just in case there's still some space left in program
memory.
