OK, listening to the sound samples, I have to admit I enjoy the sound. My
only beef is that I wonder if it is truly patent-worthy.

I noticed that the cymbals in the tambourine are pretty subtle when
fingerpicking. An improvement would be some mechanism where the
cymbals/jingle bells/crotals are coupled more strongly to the resonant head
(or a head on the other side of the hoop that is coupled via air), so that
they are triggered more strongly by plucked notes.

SDIY-relevant content: Stick some piezos on the skin of a banjo as contact
mikes. Run them through first-order filters to derive an envelope. Multiply
that signal by noise that has been run through several multiplier circuits
in series (squaring up the signal each time), to get a granular noise
stream. Run the resulting enveloped granular noise through resonant filter
circuits, to get a jingle sound.
