I'm well aware of that fact. That's exactly why I want to know more. :-)
A ZN428J f.i. is ceramic and has a temperature range of -55*C/+125*C. 
If your application needs that, you don't want to replace it with a 
ZN428E, the plastic version, which will definitely die trying do it's 
work in Alaska.
But I find it a bit strange that there is so little information to be 
found. Even data sheets often don't tell you much about those 
variations. I've checked some literature as well, but I still don't 
know the exact difference between an E and a UBE.
I hope I don't have to do my own research and compile such a list myself. =(
