I'm actually one of those people that read user manuals :-)
One of my favorite manual experiences was with Sanyo in the late 70's early
80s.
The story goes like this :
Sanyo in Moonachie New Jersey designed a computer. Basic reference design,
Z80, 64k, ran CPM. Sanyo in Japan built it. All the manuals were written
in New Jersey and sent to Japan, where they were translated to Japanese. At
that point they seem to have lost or destroyed all the original English
manuals so they TRANSLATED THEM BACK. I have a copy of the original english
manual before it went to Japan and its a very well written manual, I also
have the shipped version of the manual and the service manuals which are
laughable with stereotypical spellings and typos.
The Casio manual read the same as the shipped version of the Sanyo
manuals... the TG77 manual looks like it was written in the US...
