I have used transparency paper in the past with decent results. A friend who is studying arts, uses this method for art purposes and told me that apparently old copiers are the best for this job, since they normally used a lot more tonner than newer ones.

No, you still need the laser printer or a copier- it's
the toner that counts here for the etch resist. The
inkjet paper I described is very plasticky and seems
to release the toner well... if you have no access to
a laser printer, try to print out your design however
you can, then just photocopy it onto the paper. I just
made 5 boards with this paper, thru a photocopier-
they worked amazingly well, each one got better after
I'd gotten used to how the stuff reacted. If you mess
up a transfer, just use turpentine or acetone to clean
it, and start over...
