I've seen the future of DIY (was RE: [sdiy] Tiny FPU chip/16 bit micros?)

That is why God created Verilog... :-)
I am thinking of getting another Spartan III eval board. I have the Memec
board with a 400K part on it, but the Xilinx Starter Board (from Nu
Horizons) with the 8 color VGA output looks like it would be fun.
I still have plans for making a monster digital synth in an FPGA. You can
literally put thousands of oscillators into one of these parts.
And, if you want to go Hog Wild, and have a fat wallet, one of the New
Virtex IV parts has 512 18x18 Multiplier Accumulators in it that will run
at 300MHz...that is an unbelievable amount of computing horse power.
