Gee, I've got 4 machines that have been on 24x7 for more than 5 years. 
Another one has been running over 7 years also powered on 24x7.  I buy
mainboards from the computer swap meet, they were all brand new.  I've
never heard of such a specification, official or otherwise as 1.5 to 2
years max, and I've not seen that in practice either.
