Does anyone know about VFD Displays?

I've got a unit here with a dead NEC FIP16A5R display.  I can't seem to 
find one of these for sale.

Can anyone recommend a replacement unit or possibly something that I 
could scavenge one out of?

I'm not familiar with these displays and I have no idea how compatible 
they all are.  I've seen mention of an NEC16J5 but I don't know if that 
could be used.  Also, there are some dot matrix types of VFDs but I 
don't know if they can be used as a replacement or not.
