[sdiy] [OT] The Gullibility Factor test

The thing that threw me about the 'mercury' question is the idea that
'dental amalgam' is substantially dangerous. The mercury is mixed with
silver, which all the 'old school' people (who went to school when you could
still play with metallic mercury) know that these metals have a rabid affinity
for each other.

Now... what do you put in your mouth that is going to separate the two.. that
would not outright poison you first ???

Metallic mercury 'is' a poison but it is very difficult to absord into the body.

Other mercury compounds are much less friendly... like the mercuric chloride
onde used to stabilize ammonium persulphate etchants in PCB manufacture.

Oxides of Mercury are terribly dangerous as well... iirc it is these compounds
that
were used in hat manufacture at one time and lauched the phrase "mad as a
hatter"

I'd rather have a mouth full of mercury fillings than depleted uranium.

Better still... ANYTHING named after a god (Mercury, Uranus, Pluto etc...)
is really bad for you
