You'll find it in every electronics textbook (almost) that a JFET can
act like a voltage controlled resistor within a certain part of it's
drain curve. These are advertised as voltage controlled resistors
because they are simply ordinary JFET's optimized for this task.

I've wanted to play with the VCR series you list above, they'd make for
an interesting filter design or a good vactrol substitute without the
lag. Problem is finding a supplier for those things - while I was
interested, Mouser never had them in stock or they were outragousely
expensive.
