Ahhh...finally a SYNTH DIY thread....

I use two different panel mount pots....depending on the requirements.

If I am doing a home made panel with pots that are going to be connected
via a cable, I like to use the Alpha-Xicon pots from Mouser...to be specific:

Mouser Part numbers 31VJ401 (10K) and 31VJ501 (100K)

These parts have a good feel, last a long time (I have some that are 25+
years old and still working good)...and best of all...they are DIRT cheap (
87 cents each in 100's).

--------

On the other hand...if I am doing a PC board that is going to have pots
mounted on it that stick through the panel...I use the Vishay-Spectrol
248-249 series...(these you can get from either Digikey or Mouser...as well
as other places). An example Mouser part number is: 594-248-1103...that is
a 10K pot with a conductive plastic element...you can also get them in
cermet as well (249). The price, however...is a bit steeper. In 25's
these cost $4.82 each. These seem to be very good pots...but I have only
been using them a short time. The stuff I use the PC board mounted pots on
I consider higher quality...so I spend a bit more...these pots are not 5
time better than the alpha pots, but they are better. The do have a very
nice feel to them.
