Since somebody mentioned those patch panels in here, I thought I'd toss this
out...
I've scrapped several VCRs recently, older ones, where you had a preset
panel. Got three of them sitting here at the moment. Each has a set of
switches, typically 3-position and 14 or so of them, and a multiturn
trimpot for each position.
I *think* based on some examination that this stuff is arranged in a matrix,
where some sort of a logic signal selects which of the switches are selected
and which trimpot, the output connections of which are all tied to some
common point, probably eventually fed to the tuner section of the VCR.
Seems to me this would also be usable for a sequencer, perhaps. The logic
signal inputs could be stepped through, and the pots could allow for the
adjustment of some parameter or other as output.
