Just so you're up-to-date on this:  There are absolutely no legal 
restrictions on the use of the Moog ladder filter.  It can be freely used and adapted 
without restriction in commercial and non-commercial designs.  In fact, it is 
used in several high-profile commercial products, and has been for a number of 
years.  One of the first I can recall was the Peavey Spectrum Analog Filter 
module, a very cool and sadly underappreciated product from the early 1990's.  It 
contained a reproduction of the classic Moog transistor ladder filter.  Hell, 
Alesis even has the damn thing etched right into silicon in their Andromeda 
ASIC chip.  The patent has long expired, and neither license nor permission is 
needed.  You didn't know this?
