The definition of being modular is a matter of perspective.
Modular to the user or modular to the designer?
I made a synth of modules, but hide the patch from the user (i.c.
myself) it's not that modular anymore, but it was when I made the
thing.
And isn't an opamp a module, in a way? ;-)
Do you guys 'normalise' your synths? that is: If you pull out all
patchcables, are the modules of your synth connected through a default
patch, or are all
modules separated? Maybe that is distinguishing?
I have 2:
One has radiobuttons and rotary knobs to patch. It's patching
possibilities are limited, but patching is fast and easy to
understand.
The other one is normalised: It serves a special function in a default
patch, but these lines are switch of when you put a jack in an input
socket.
