You could easily go the other way and build a micromodular kit of synth 
module building blocks, with summing nodes, expos, linear and exponential 
integrators, comparators and switchers, and so on, on different panels 
instead of entire VCOs, ADSRs, etc.

There is quite a bit of potential overlap between the internals of many 
different module types, so this isn't a completely crazy idea.

(Just a very expensive one because of panel cost issues.)
