Fvck. I just build them and play them. ;^P
(is anyone buils one lately ???)
For an "analog synthesizer' I'd say its the ability to control
parameters with voltage.
I'm with the "patchable = modular" crowd.
ARP 2600 is a "modular synth" ... Minimoog is not.
Its the ability to change 'algorithms' in my opinion
( /ho ) that makes a synth 'modular'. You can plug the
VCA before the VCF, or after... as you like.
You can have a 'modular' synthesizer on one board.
Since the esteemed Mr. Schreiber is already wearing
his flameproof undies (I was going to hold a match and
use natural gas, btw)... The MOTM would be the
perfect modular... having a standard form factor AND
the ability to configure the order of modules.
My new 'guitar synth' is a true modular as well... I'm
LOVING it. Being able to slide a module in and out of a rack
for modification in minutes has saved me hours already !!!

(also wearing flameproof underwear. bring it SOON these things are itchy :^)
