These pots would be a boon for Synth DIY.  There was a similar pot in the old 
EML101 modular synth -- it was used for mixing the various multimode filter 
taps, as I recall -- although I don't think it had a center detent.  I wonder 
if there might be a way to simulate it electronically (umm, without using a 
handful of VCA's...)  I have seen audio mixers that had aux send pots that 
behaved this way.  That is, turn it CW to turn up Aux A (only), turn it CCW to turn 
up Aux B (only), put it in the center to turn them both off.  It may have been 
on some kind of Roland line mixer, like the M-16e or something like that.
