Many a heart has been broken by switchers.
The only successful time to get the noise out, is when you are
designing the switcher.
As for efficiency, I'd concentrate on turning the thermostat
down in winter & up in summer!
Seriously, thre is no easy way to shield against radiation from 
carelessly wound inductors (or the wiring to them).
Also, have a 'sniff' along the mains lead to the switcher
with a scope probe.. plenty of RF there!!!!!
