Funny you ask Tom, I'm wondering the same as I just finsihed my 3031 a
week ago and just started a filtrex this weekend and was thinking jacks
at the back would suck especially to use with a modular etc......i've
even thougth about this with the 3031 and that's why its still without a
case :(
I was either going to put them into a 2u case or thought as a cheaper
option and maybe more versatileone I could get a blank 1U panel for
each and install panel jacks into that and then wire those panel jacks
to 1\4 plugs and just plug them into the jacks in the back of the 1u
case. That way I can remove the extra panel etc if I need to carry them
around and just want to use the jacks built into the case's
rear.............maybe an idea?

I'm looking for opinions on something.
So, now that my 3031 is really done, I need to do my Filtrex. I had
planned to put it in a 1U box ( and in fact have a Schaffer 1U panel
already done ) but I've kinda realised that it might be good to do 2U
and put the jacks on the front. I'm also toying with the idea of doing
it 1U with a second U patch panel. I shoulda just built the damn thing
before I actually started thinking about it.
So, if you've built a Filtrex ( or other filter-in-a-box ) did you patch
it out the front or back?
