[sdiy] Satisfying DIY

While not 100% sdiy related ( except that I listen to my music on it ), I
finished rebuilding my Dynaco ST120 amp finally. I have another one to
finish up which I'll do tonight after I finish my 3031 case project...

I finally did locate some diodes with the proper voltage drop. I couldnt
find any large caps to fit the space of the original power supply caps, so I
wound up getting modern snap-in's and making PVC rings that fit the mounts,
and gluing the new caps into the rings with silicone. I replaced every
electrolytic cap, every chunk of silicon, and the two tant's ( with ones with
3 times the original voltage rating... ). Also replaced ( and uprated )
every 2watt or larger resistor and made sure that any previously warm
resistor or diode was now properly spaced off the board. One thing that was
harder then I expected was finding good transistors. The MOSFETs I needed
for the power supply ( 2SK1058's ) are tricky to find to put it mildly, and
decent high voltage TO3 case outputs are a little on the scarse side these
days. Once I found a suitable part, I did find multiple manufacturers, it
was just hard finding a current device to use.

This was extremely satisfying work to do and was just the ticket to get me
in good spirits for working on harder projects.
