A while ago I got myself one off eBay for a (very) good price indeed,
complete with software that re-instated my almost forgotten C-64.
according to the instructions it would indeed do the 2508 and 2708
for me.
After I finally remembered the right codes to load, save, etc, (last
time I turned it on was 125 years ago) it turns out there is no third
voltage supply line on the program board.
Second, it does no checksums and will happily make a perfect copy
from an imperfect original, stating that everything compares A-OK.
So I'm back to square one. I have a few Macs here, Atari ST's, C-64's
and even an MSX and i'm not anxious to add a DOS machine, just to
copy a few Eprom's. So if anybody is aware of the existence of a
stand-alone machine, knowing brand and type number would already be
great. It would make my search a bit lighter. ;-)

Thanks,
Senso
