Okay, I have a donor Mini that I'll be picking up this Saturday
(muchas gracias to Brandon Daniel). I'll get out my digital calipers
and start measuring and modeling! Granted this is going to take at
least a month, maybe two, but I plan to end up with 3D CAD models of
-the case (all the wood and metal pieces)
-front panel
-panel mount pots
-panel mount switches
-panel mount jacks and connectors
-keyboard (keys and perhaps a detail of mechanism for one key)
-internal mechanicals (mount brackets, PCB outlines w/mount holes)
-knobs
-bend and mod wheels
-and perhaps other pieces that are important to the assembly
(transformer, board connectors)
-I WON'T be modeling individual PCB components or most of the wiring harness.

When it's all said and done, I'll post these somewhere (DXF and IGES
formats) and people can load them into their own CAD software to take
measurements and/or make fabrication drawings. I'll eventually make a
set of drawings, but this will take longer (another month), and the
truly impatient can still use the 3D models (for private,
non-commercial use, of course). Basically, I'm reverse-engineering the
Mini. With this CAD information, a set of schematics and a lot of
patience you could, in theory at least, clone your own Mini. Yipes,
what have I gotten myself into?!? ;)
