The good news is that some switchmode supplies run from
85 to 260 V AC input, so you don't  have to worry about 
where you are in the world (just have a simple plug adaptor).

The bad news is, I had a wart style switch mode adaptor burn out in a
fairly spectacular fashion (lighting induced surge?) while all
my ordinary adaptors sailed thru perfectly OK.
Mind you, it wasn't from Jameco..
