2N2646 is a Unijunction Transistor, it might be used in a sawtooth
VCO (although it will have a fairly limited range in tune...) or as a
pulse
generator. It could also be used in frequency divider circuits like the
drum machine "thumpa thumpa box" that ran in Popular Electronics in the
early 70's iirc.

I build one. We called it 'stupid' because it would keep the beat like a

real drummer. If the furnace started, it would flub a downbeat. Good
practice
for the rest of the band :^P
