[sdiy] Boss DR110 system noise

I was just thinking about the DR110 when I saw your post here! Last
fall, I was mentioning about how I had just gotten a Willem EPROM
burner, and was going to rip and analyse so much ROM data, write
firmware, etc, etc. Well - I just got it going this week, because I
needed to salvage a "new" wintel computer to use with it, and adapt a
proper wallwart to supply it from.

My DR110 was noiseless, like yours has become. I love the sounds of
these things. OK, so it's got the weakest kick ever... but I do love
every other sound in there! Probably because the cheap circuitry makes
no attempt to sound like real drums, and the best vintage of Roland
707/626 graphical programming. Extremely "electro" stuff.

Now, my DR110 is quite tricked out - mostly like the stuff on Dave's
excellent site, but with some different resistor values. The external
knob box, mounted to the left of the unit, is quite crammed. I have
been holding out for the right time to do my last(?) mods on this
particular unit: separate outs, and a MIDI input. I got some 1/8",
normally-closed jacks for the outputs. Now I am scratching my head,
trying to work out my first PIC code! I burned the code to Old Crow's
"QWER" MIDI-Trigger interface, but four triggers just aren't going to
be enough. Trevor Page and others have used the portA connections for
MIDI channel select inputs, and portB for eight outputs, so I think I
can figure out how to make something similar. Still, I just started
trying to figure this out an hour ago.

I definately will buy a second DR110 to rack mount, so can fit all of
the mods want to do in there, including MIDI I/O, trigger I/O,
envelope controls for the voice mods, etc. The thing is just like
"VGER" from the first Star Trek movie, a tiny machine dwarfed by its
crazy modifications!
