Okay after thinking about it and looking at the moog 923 schematic, I
have put together a whiteboard on the difference between current mode
and voltage mode output signals.

The one thing I left out was that voltage mode signals can be AC
coupled. Current mode signals must be patched with a DC capable cable.
When an AC type signal shift is required, the signal must first be
converted from a current to a voltage.

The input to the circuit in the PDF - R2 (and R1 - but the circuit could
be built without R1) the current to voltage converter.
