Your answer sounds more realistic. But what I wrote is what he told me
there.... This brings out something I always hate about the business
world. It seems to do well and make a name for yourself you have to have a
story, a marketing twist on everything that goes on or went on in your life
(or business).
At Music Man I remember some of these - the guys making effects units,
guitars, or customizing amps... Kind of like the guys that try and market
exotic miscellanea for the audio purists.
Why didn't Dave just tell me they are from Tom? Tom was THERE. I could
have then asked how available these chips are etc. Maybe more products
could be designed with them...
Tom was being pressured to re-enter the music busines world with a synth
remake of SEM's or whatever. But he is pretty down on the music biz. Says
it isn't fun and it is really hard to be successful. Kind of a bummer to
hear. To him, the business climate is much more of a problem than the
declining availability of analog components.

It was actually designed for Tom Oberheim's Marion Synth and the initial
batch Dave got from Overheim directly. Back when the Evolver was still new,
got to see Dave give a talk at the local AES meeting. As I think has been
mentioned, was facinating to hear how he basically designed, build, and
shipped a synth without ever leaving the house. I've had the lid off a Poly
Evolver Rack and sure enough it still has the Marion chips in it...
Wonder if there is some way to hack the two unused VCO's to life ( he used
two chips in the original evolver to get 4 filters, but only used two of the
VCOs... )
