[sdiy] DIY PCB-making in top quality

The reflow ovens might be okay for DIY (if you've got room for a 10 to 15
foot long oven, and 220VAC to run it, and don't mind having another zero
added to the end of your utility bill), but the pick and place machines
would be no good for most DIYers. The tape feeders require at least a foot
(or more) of empty 'leader' to be threaded into the feeder mechanism
(remember, I used to set up these things for a living). So unless you
basically have full reels of all your Cs and Rs and transistors and even
small ICs, you wouldn't even be able to use the pick and place. ALSO, the
programming and setup time is enough that it really isn't worth even
automating for anything less than twenty or thirty boards (skilled workers
can do ten or twenty boards faster by hand).

And here you all were, ready to bid the $70K to $150K (US$) a used Siemens
Pick and Place machine will run...

;-)

my other life) Servo
