There was a lot of stuff (on this list, IIRC) a year or two ago about 
matching diodes and whatnot for this filter.

Anyway, check out my Yves Usson - style tracking mod:

This filter will track fairly well over several octaves. The sound is 
distinctive - one of my favorites.
