[sdiy] SOlder Paste Masks?

how small are you talking about? I did this board with .65mm pitch with 
just a normal iron and small tip:

this was on a circuit board I made and the pads weren't milled 
perfectly. that makes it more difficult.   i actually managed to do one 
on another board with a .5mm pitch tqfp. My method doesn't look as cool 
as the draging, but it is similar. I put down a tiny amount of solder 
(tiny) on each pad, then placed the chip. then heated each pin at a 
time. also put on some paste flux before.

I was trying to do it like shown in this video, although I had to add 
solder before hand:
